Jay P. Brooks

Jay P. Brooks works as a Professor of pathology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA), San Antonio, Tex, USA. Previously, he served academically and as director of transfusion medicine and technical director of the Stem Cell Laboratory at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, Okla, USA. Dr. Brooks is the Chair of the Ethics Committee and a Member of the Circular of Information Task Force for the American Association of Blood Banks. His specific research interests in blood banking and transfusion medicine include the economics of blood transfusion, ethical issues involving blood donation and transfusion, and transfusion safety. Dr. Brooks earned his medical degree from The University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine. He completed his Residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City and his postdoctoral training in blood banking and transfusion medicine at the New York Blood Center, also in New York City. Dr. Brooks later completed his MBA degree at the University of Memphis and an additional Postdoctoral Fellowship in blood banking and transfusion medicine at UTHSCA.
