Antonio Aversa graduated with highest honors from the Sapienza University of Rome, Rome, Italy, in 1990. In 1995, after completing his endocrinologic training at Dipartimento di Fisiopatologia Medica of Rome, he was a Visiting Fellow at Dr. Tom Lue’s Department, the Department of Urology, University of California, San Francisco, CA, USA. He is presently a Teaching Professor of medical sexology at the School of Specialization of Endocrinology, Sapienza University of Rome. Aversa has authored or coauthored more than 200 publications (109 original papers with overall impact factor more than 300) and 16 books. His major professional interests are the diagnosis and treatment of male sexual dysfunctions and the endocrinology of male ageing. His research team has made important contributions to clinical approach to patients not responding to conventional therapies for erectile dysfunction. In 1997, he was the recipient of the Italian Society of Andrology’s Most Innovative Research Award. In 1999, he received honors by the Italian Society of Endocrinology, and in 2004, the same society awarded him with the Most Innovative Paper in Andrology published by the Journal of Endocrinological Investigation. Aversa was the recipient of two prizes for clinical research presented by the European Society for Sexual Medicine (Rome, 2001, and London, 2004); finally, the same society presented him the Award of Excellence in 2007 for exceptional research made in the field of sexual medicine. He is a Member of the Scientific Board of the Italian Society of Andrology. He is a Reviewer of many top journals in his field including the Circulation, the Endocrinology, the European Urology, the Journal of Sexual Medicine, and the American Journal of Cardiology.
