Gabriele Milani obtained his Ph.D. degree (summa cum laude) discussing a thesis entitled Homogenization strategies for in- and out-of-plane loaded masonry wall in March 2005. He got his M.S. degree (summa cum laude) discussing a thesis in the field of masonry modeling entitled Numerical models for the analysis of masonry walls out-of-plane loaded in December 2001. He has been working as an Assistant Professor, scientific area ICAR/08 (scienza delle costruzioni), at Department of Structural Engineering (DIS), Technical University in Milan, Italy, from 22 December 2008 to present. Before his current position, Professor Milani was a Postdoctoral Researcher at Department of Engineering, University of Ferrara, Ferrara, Italy, from December 2004 to April 2008, a Postdoctoral Researcher, from April 2008 to November 2008, at the Institute of Structural Engineering (IBK), and Member of Earthquake Engineering and Structural Dynamics at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zürich (ETHZ), 8093 Zurich, Switzerland. His main interest is in the numerical analysis of masonry walls in- and out-of-plane loaded by means of heterogeneous and homogenization approaches. Other areas of his interest include the numerical determination of optimal multicomponent polymeric solutions.
