Gillian W Cockerill
0000-0003-4711-5916Dr Cockerill’s investigation into the molecular mechanisms of smooth muscle cell phenotypic modulation, was awarded a PhD under the supervision of Professors Julie and Gordon Campbell, in Melbourne Australia. Her subsequent reported studies on the anti-inflammatory effects of high density lipoproteins have been seminal in driving research interest in this field and have produced a citation classic publication in this field (Cockerill GW et al., High-density lipoproteins inhibit cytokine-induced expression of endothelial cell adhesion molecules. Arterioscler Thromb Vasc Biol 1995; 15(11):1987-1994). Her current position is as Head of Vascular Biology at St George’s Hospital Medical School. With twenty years experience in vascular biology research, her laboratory continues to investigate the molecular mechanisms of degenerative vascular diseases, specifically unstable atherosclerotic plaque and abdominal aortic aneurysm.
