John V. Moran

John V. Moran currently is an Investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Md, USA, and a Professor of human genetics and internal medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School, Mich, USA. He earned his B.S. degree in chemistry from the Rochester Institute of Technology. He conducted his graduate studies with Dr. Philip S. Perlman, earning his M.S. degree from The Ohio State University and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. He conducted postdoctoral studies with Dr. Haig Kazazian Jr. at Johns Hopkins Medical School and the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. In 1998, he joined the faculty of the University of Michigan Medical School. His laboratory uses genetic, molecular, biochemical, and genomic technologies to study the biology of an abundant class of jumping genes in the human genome known as LINE-1 retrotransposons. Dr. Moran enjoys teaching in courses offered by the Department of Human Genetics and is a Member of the American Society of Human Genetics.
