For most part his research has dealt with the use of molecular approaches to studying the evolution and ecology of marine vertebrates and invertebrates. Specific topics of interested include: molecular evolution and ecology, phylogenetics and molecular systematics, phylogeography, population genetics, conservation genetics, and community ecology.
