Zhixian Cao

Zhixian Cao completed his B.S. degree at Wuhan University, under the internationally unique undergraduate program of river sedimentation engineering and Ph.D. degree in river dynamics at the same university. In 1996, he was promoted to Full Professor at Tianjin University. He has held Visiting Professorship at Ritsumeikan University in Japan. In 2003, he was awarded Telford Prize by the Institution of Civil Engineers, UK. Currently, he holds the position of Luojia Scholar Program Professor in Hydraulics at the State Key Laboratory of Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering Science, Wuhan University (China) and Professor of river dynamics at School of the Built Environment, Heriot-Watt University (UK). Zhixian’s research has centred on fluvial hydraulics, erosion, and sedimentation as well as flood risk management. In recent years, he has chaired a series of research programs on flood and sediment transport, including dam and dike break flooding, flash flooding, and urban flooding, as funded by the National Key Basic Research and Development (973) Program of China, Natural Science Foundation of China, Ministry of Education of China, and EU 6th Framework Program.
