Walter Fiedler

Walter Fiedler was born in Nuernberg, Germany in 1957. He received his M.D. degree and Medical License from the University of Hamburg, Germany in 1983. His medical thesis was performed at the Heinrich-Pette Institute, Hamburg, Germany under the direction of Professor Rudolf Jaenisch. From 1984 till 1986, he worked as a Research Fellow at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Ny, USA. Since 1986, Dr. Fiedler has worked at the Department of Oncology/Hematology at the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf. He received his German Board certification in internal medicine and oncology/hematology in 1994 and 1998, respectively. Since 1999, he has been a Professor of internal medicine (with special emphasis on hematology/oncology). Since 2008, Dr. Fiedler is the Head of the newly founded Phase I Unit and Phase I Program. His special interest lies in early drug development and basic and translational research in AML and hematopoietic stem cells as well as angiogenesis, especially in hematological malignancies.
