James Walter was born in South Charleston, West Virginia, USA, in 1946. He received an M.S. degree from Chicago State University, Ill, USA, and the Ph.D. degree in physiology from the Rosalind Franklin University, North Chicago, Ill, USA, in 1976 and 1982, respectively. Since 1985, Walter has worked in the Research Service of Hines VA Hospital. Presently, he is an Associate Professor of urology at Loyola Medical Center, Ill. He is mainly interested in functional electrical stimulation and neuromodulation for spinal-injured patients to address paralysis problems in urological and respiratory areas. He has received several NIH and VA grants. Walter is a Member of the International Functional Electrical Stimulation Society, American Urological Society, and Society for Urodynamics and Female Urology.
