Francesc Illas

Francesc Illas is the Director of the Institut de Quimica Teòrica i Computacional de la Universitat de Barcelona (ITQCUB) and the Head of the Computational Materials Science Laboratory. He is also the Director of the XRQTC catalan research network involving over 20 groups working in the field of theoretical and computational chemistry (http://www.xrqtc.com). He has coauthored over 370 research papers which received nearly 7000 citations (H-index=41) and over 20 book chapters, and he has given over 80 invited lectures and seminars. His scientific interest focuses on the application of electronic structure methods to surface science problems, heterogeneous catalysis, and magnetic systems with increasing emphasis on nanoscale systems. He has received the Distinguished Professorship of the Catalan Government in 2001 and the Bruker Physical Chemistry Award of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry in 2004.
