Francesco Petrella was born in Caserta (Italy) on January, 1st 1975. He obtained his summa cum laude Medical degree at the University of Naples Federico II and then his summa cum laude Specialist degree in general thoracic surgery at the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna. In April 2004, he was awarded a European Community fellowship to attend, for a six-month period, the Vienna Lung Transplant Team at the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery of the Medical University of Vienna (Austria). After coming back to Italy, he was also awarded a Fellowship of the American–Italian Cancer Foundation (AICF) to attend, as a clinical fellow, the European Institute of Oncology (Milan, Italy) between October 1, 2004 - February 28, 2005. Since March 1, 2005, Dr. Petrella has worked at the Department of Thoracic Surgery of the European Institute of Oncology.
