Ana Catarina Sousa graduated in biology from the University of Aveiro, Aveiro, Portugal, in 2001, and obtained her Ph.D. degree in biology in September 2009 from the same university. With her Ph.D. work she characterized the levels and biological effects of endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in the Portuguese coastal area with special focus on organotins (OTs) and invertebrates. Presently, she works as a Postdoc Researcher at the Aveiro University (Portugal); at the University of Beira Interior (Portugal); and at CMES, Ehime University (Japan). Her major research interest still focuses on EDCs; however Sousa is now trying to understand the exposure levels and pathways for the Portuguese population in order to unravel possible relationships between EDCs exposure and certain pathologies.
