Albert Fortuny is a Professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Barcelona, Medical School, Spain, and a Senior Consultant at the Hospital Clinic, University of Barcelona, Spain. He was the Director of the Prenatal Diagnosis and Reproductive Counseling Unit, Regional Reference Center for the Department of Health in Catalonia, Hospital Clinic, University of Barcelona, Spain (1979–2005). Moreover, he was the Director of the Research Unit on Fetal-Maternal Medicine, Foundation for Biomedical Research, Hospital Clinic, University of Barcelona, Spain (1996–2005). He is a Life Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (USA). He is an Editor-in-Chief of Progresos en Obstetricia y Ginecologia, Elsevier Health Science Division, official journal of the Spanish Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology (SEGO). In addition, Fortuny was the President of the Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Catalonia, Spain (1988–1992) and the present Honorary President; the President of the scientific committee, 10th ISPD International Conference on Prenatal Diagnosis and Therapy, Barcelona, Spain, in 2000; a Board Member of the International Society for Prenatal Diagnosis (ISPD) (2001–2004); a Member of the FIGO Expert Advisory Panel on Prenatal and Preimplantation Genetics, Diagnosis, and Therapy (2000–2007); the President of the Spanish Society of Prenatal Diagnosis (2001–2006); the Chairman of the Expert Maternal Child Health Consulting Committee for the development of the Prenatal Diagnosis Program in Catalonia, Department of Health, Barcelona, Spain (1990–2009); and a Founding Member of the International Down's Syndrome Screening Group (UK). Fortuny is a Member of the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, London, UK. He authored a number of research papers published in peer-reviewed journals (PubMed) and book chapters on fetal-maternal medicine.
