George O. Klein

George O. Klein was born in 1925 in Budapest, Hungary. He obtained his M.D. degree from Karolinska Institute in 1951 and received 6 honorary degrees in various countries. He is a Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, a Foreign Associate of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States, and a Member of the Nobel Assembly of Karolinska Institute during 1957–1993. He received the Harvey Prize in 1975, Gardner Award in 1976, Behring Prize in 1977, Sloan Prize from the General Motors Cancer Research Foundation in 1979, Robert Koch gold medal in 1998, and numerous other awards. He published 1280 papers in the fields of experimental cell research and cancer research, and nine nonscientific books (essay collections) in Swedish, three of which were translated into English.
