Jun Nakamura received his M.D. degree from Kurume University School of Medicine, Kurume, Japan in 1975 and his Ph.D. degree from Kurume University Graduate School in 1979. In 1979–1981, he was a Research Associate at the Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology, The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Tex, USA, and in 1981–1984 a Lecturer in psychiatry at the Department of Psychiatry, Kurume University School of Medicine. In 1984-1985, Nakamura returned to the Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology, The University of Texas Medical Branch as a Research Associate. From 1985 to 1991, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Psychiatry, Kurume University School of Medicine and from 1992 to 1998 as an Associate Professor. Since 1998, Nakamura is Professor and Chairman of Department of Psychiatry, School of Medicine, University of Occupational and Environmental Health, Kitakyushu, Japan. His major interesting area includes psychopharmacology, liaison psychiatry, study on etiology of schizophrenia and mood disorder by catecholamine metabolites and BDNF. Nakamura serves as a Vice-Editors-In-Chief of Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences and is on the Editorial Board of International Journal of Neuropsychopharmacology (IJNP) since 2003.
