Ramon Eritja received a B.S. degree in chemistry, a B.S. degree in pharmacy, a Ph.D. degree in chemistry from the University of Barcelona, Spain, in 1977, 1982, and 1983, respectively. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Beckman Research Institute at Hope, Calif, USA, from 1984 to 1988 and Dr. Caruthers’s laboratories, University of Colorado at Boulder, USA, from 1988 to 1989. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Barcelona from 1989 to 1990. Moreover, Eritja is a Group Leader at CSIC, Barcelona, Spain, from 1990 to 1994, a Group Leader and responsible of DNA synthesis facility at EMBL, Heidelberg, Germany, from 1994 to 1999, and a Research Professor at IBMB-CSIC leading the Nucleic Acid Chemistry group since 1999. He is an invited Member of the IRB-Scientific Parc of Barcelona since December 2004. He is an expertise on oligonucleotide and peptide synthesis especially on the methodological aspects of solid-phase synthesis (monomer synthesis, preparation of solid supports, synthesis, and purification). He has an experience in most areas related to the synthesis and properties of oligonucleotide derivatives including nonnatural bases, phosphate and backbone modifications, oligonucleotide-peptide conjugates, and RNA derivatives. He has 200 publications and 3500 citations at Science Citation Index. He supervised 15 M.S. theses or equivalent.
