Wolfgang Brocks got a Diploma in mechanical engineering at Technical University Berlin, Berlin, Germany, 1967, Doctoral degree from the same university, 1971, and a Lecture qualification (Habilitation) in 1977. Brocks worked as Research Scientist at Federal Institute for Materials Testing (BAM), Berlin, from 1980 to 1991, Nonordinary Professor of engineering mechanics at Technical University Berlin, 1986, Research Scientist at Fraunhofer Institute for Materials Mechanics (FhIWM), Freiburg , from 1992 to 1995, Professor of materials mechanics at Christian Albrechts University, Kiel, 1995 , and Head of Simulation of Solids and Structures Department at GKSS Research Centre, Geesthacht, from 1995 to 2007. Brocks retired in 2009. Brocks served as Consultant Professor at Northwestern Polytechnical University Xian (China) in 1995. Brocks won Griffith Medal of ESIS, 2002, Wöhler Medal of DVM, 2007, and Honorary Member Italian Group of Fracture Awards, 2007. Brocks' research fields include Fracture mechanics, constitutive modelling of deformation and damage, numerical analyses of structures, structural integrity.
