Ick Joong Chung obtained a Ph.D. degree. He is an Associate Professor in the Graduate School of Social Welfare at Ewha Womans University, Seoul, Republic of Korea. Currently, he is the Director of the Institute for Social Welfare Research. For more than 10 years, he has led research and program development to promote positive youth development and prevent problem behavior. He is the Principal Investigator on a number of research grants, which include prevention approaches to reduce risk while enhancing the protective factors of bonding and promotion of healthy beliefs and clear standards. He has worked primarily to understand the relationship between poverty and children’s development, specifically, how children develop and how families function in disadvantaged social environments. His expertise is longitudinal data analyses and latent variable analyses. His recent research interests are the relationships between poverty and child maltreatment, and risk factors of child maltreatment that operates at multiple levels as well as their implications for prevention.
