Maria Eriksson works as an Associate Professor in medical genetics at the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden, since 2010. She received her M.S. degree in molecular biology from Umeå University, Umeå, Sweden, in 1996 and her Ph.D. degree in neurology from the Karolinska Institute in 2001. From 2001 to 2003, Eriksson was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Human Genome Research Institute, National Institutes of Health. She serves as Principal Investigator/Research Group Leader and Assistant Professor at the Department of Biosciences and Nutrition of the Karolinska Institute since 2003. Her research interests include disease mechanisms in Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria syndrome, nuclear lamins, segmental premature aging syndromes, and genetic mechanisms of aging.
