Stefan Schmatz

University of Göttingen, Germany

Stefan Schmatz was born in 1968 in Kassel, Germany. He obtained his Diplomas in chemistry (1993) and physics (1995) from the University of Göttingen, Germany. After obtaining his Ph.D. degree in theoretical chemistry (1997) with Professor P. Botschwina and Professor J. Troe, he spent two years as an Honorary Research Fellow with Professor D. C. Clary at University College London. He finished his Habilitation degree in 2002 with a thesis on nucleophlilic substitution reactions, and is now a Professor for physicical and theoretical chemistry at the University of Göttingen. His research interests include quantum reaction dynamics, reaction mechanisms in inorganic and organic chemisty, and theoretical molecular spectroscopy, in particular intralmolecular dynamics and vibrational spectroscopy.
