Virgil-Florin Duma is Professor at the Aurel Vlaicu University of Arad (UAVA), Head and founder of the 3OM Optomechatronics Group, and PI of a partnership project of the Romanian Authority for Scientific Research (http://3om-group-optomechatronics.ro). He received his Ph.D. cum laude in fine mechanics and optics in 2001, from the Polytechnics University of Timisoara (UPT), Romania, after graduating at UPT in 1991, first place. He has worked at UPT since graduating until 2001, when he moved as an Associate Professor at the UAVA, where he reached full professorship in 2006. He was awarded in 2009-2010 a Fulbright Senior Research Fellowship at the Institute of Optics, University of Rochester, NY, USA, where he is currently a Visiting Scientist. He is also Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Kent at Canterbury, UK, as well as Adjunct Professor at the West University of Timisoara and at UPT (at the latter, as Ph.D. supervisor). Professor Duma defeated his Habilitation thesis in 2013 at the Polytechnics University of Bucharest. He is author of more than 170 publications in journals and conferences, 15 books, and book chapters and has 3 patents pending. His main research interests are in measuring systems, optomechatronics, and biomedical imaging. He is a member of OSA and a Senior Member of SPIE.
