Bashar M. Attar has the M.D., Ph.D., M.P.H. (Epi), F.A.C.P., F.A.C.G., A.G.A.F., and F.A.S.G.E. degrees. He is the System-Wide Chair of gastroenterology and hepatology at the Cook County Health and Hospitals System. He serves as a Professor of medicine at Rush University Medical College and as a Director of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County, both in Ill, USA. Dr. Attar also works as the Director of the GI Fellowship Program at John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County. Dr. Attar was the past President of the Chicago Society for Gastroenterology, Ill, USA. He received his education at BU, Harvard, and Northwestern. His research interests include fatty liver disease (NAFLD, NASH, and ASH), viral hepatitis B and hepatitis C, alcoholic liver disease, complications of cirrhosis, and liver complications of systemic diseases. Dr. Attar has additional research interests in GERD and Barrett's, colon cancer, epidemiology, and chemoprevention of cancer.
