Since September 1st 1997 Franco Frau works at the University of Cagliari and carries out his teaching and research activities at the Department of Chemical and Geological Sciences. His research interests are mainly concentrated on Environmental Mineralogy and Geochemistry, with particular regard to the processes of water-rock interaction in active and closed mines. The most important scientific results concern (i) the modelling of formation-dissolution-precipitation cycle of secondary products of sulphide oxidation, (ii) the study of surface reactions of minerals of environmental interest, (iii) the geochemical and mineralogical controls on distribution and mobility of arsenic and other toxic elements. He was organizer of international congresses and editor of the proceedings; scientific responsible of local research projects and projects of co-operation with third-world countries (Chile, Brazil and Morocco). He is Liaison Officer of the NEA-OECD for the University of Cagliari. He is reviewer of several international journals, and was guest editor of three special issues of international journals.
