Sara N. Richter has been an Assistant Professor in microbiology and clinical microbiology at the Department of Histology, Microbiology and Medical Biotechnologies, University of Padova, Italy, since 2006. She is also a First-Level Manager at the Microbiology and Virology Unit of Azienda Ospedaliera of Padova, Italy. Professor Richter received his B.S. degree in pharmaceutical chemistry and technology in 1997 (with honors); the Ph.D. degree in drug sciences in 1998–2000; the Ph.D. degree in virology, University of Padova (2002–2004). Dr. Richter was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Ny, USA from 1999 to 2001 and a Postdoctoral Fellow from 2001 to 2003 at University of Padova. She has published 35 papers in peer review journal and 30 abstracts at international and national meetings. She is currently teaching 5 courses at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, University of Padova, Italy, and a Member of Società Italiana di Virologia (SIV). Moreover, Professor Richter has received several awards such as Young Investigator Award from University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, USA, in 2000 and Best Poster Award from Società Italiana di Virologia (SIV), Orvieto, Italy in 2006. In 2009 and 2011, she received the following grants: ERC-Ideas Starting Grant-FIRB IDEAS and The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation 2011. Her fields of interest include search of new anti-HIV-1 compounds with unprecedented mechanism of action; search of new antiviral compounds that act through recognition of unusual nucleic acid conformation; analysis and development of new anticancer drugs that interact at the telomere/oncogene promoter level; mechanism of action of antibacterial drug resistance in clinical relevant pathogens; screening of new antibacterial compounds.
