Jayajit Chakraborty is a Professor of geography at the University of South Florida, Tampa, FL, USA. He has a Ph.D. degree in geography and an M.S. degree in urban and regional planning from the University of Iowa, Iowa, IA, USA. Dr. Chakraborty's research interests are located at the intersection of hazards geography, health geography, and urban geography and encompass a wide range of environmental and social justice concerns. He is particularly interested in applications of geographic information science and spatial statistical techniques. Dr. Chakraborty has published more than 50 articles/book chapters in prominent academic journals such as American Journal of Public Health, Annals of the Association of American Geographers, Environment and Planning A, Health and Place, Risk Analysis, and The Professional Geographer. He has received multiple awards from the National Science Foundation (NSF) as a Principal Investigator, and his research activities have also been supported by grants from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Association of American Geographers (AAG), and the Florida Department of Transportation. Additionally, he was commissioned by the EPA to coauthor and present a paper that served as the basis for discussion at a national symposium called Strengthening Environmental Justice Research and Decision Making: A Symposium on the Science of Disproportionate Environmental Health Impacts.
