Bennett T. Amaechi received the B.D.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees. Amaechi is a Professor and Director of cariology at the Department of Comprehensive Dentistry in the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He began his career as a Dentist with specialist training in prosthetic dentistry and dental implantology at Guy’s Hospital, London, UK, where he obtained an M.S. degree and later his Ph.D. degree in cariology/preventive dentistry at the University of Liverpool School of Dentistry, UK. He directs the cariology course, caries detection clinic, and caries management module of second year predoctoral clinic. He teaches clinical preventive dentistry, caries management, and caries diagnostics to the dental students, dental residents, and graduate students of biomedical engineering. Dr. Amaechi has authored/coauthored several journal articles, book chapters, conference proceedings, and abstracts in studies of anticaries agents, caries diagnostics, dental erosion, and dentin hypersensitivity. He is a frequent presenter in national and international scientific conferences and an active member of various professional and scientific organizations. Dr. Amaechi is a Reviewer to several scientific journals and has received grants and research contracts from industry and National Institute of Health. His research expertise is on dental caries, dental erosion, and caries diagnostics, with particular interest in development, evaluation, and clinical trials of anticaries agents and caries diagnostics.
