Paolo Remondelli

Università degli Studi di Salerno, Italy

Paolo Remondelli was born in Naples, Italy, in 1957. He received the Biological Sciences degree and the Specialty degree in pathology from the University of Naples Federico II, Italy, in 1982 and 1987, respectively. Since 1987, Remondelli has been in the Department of Biochemistry and Medical Biotechnology, University of Naples Federico II. In 1988, he was a Research Fellow at the Centre de Recherche en Cancerologie, Hotel Dieu de Quebec, QC, Canada. From 1992 to 1994, Remondelli was a Research Associate of Department of Pharmacology and Molecular Genetics, University of California San Diego, San Diego, Calif, USA. Since 2001, he has been a Professor of cell biology at the Department of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences, University of Salerno, Italy. Remondelli is mainly interested in the cell stress response and in particular in the understanding of the molecular mechanisms that control proteostasis within the secretory pathway. Remondelli research lines are focused on the elucidation of the molecular mechanisms of the cell response to protein unfolding within the Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) responsible for the regulation of (1) gene expression, (2) ER-to-Golgi transport, (3) functioning of the molecular machines that regulate the ER exit of different types of cargo, and (4) cell death or survival.
