Valerio Magnaghi obtained his Degree in Chemical and Pharmaceutical Technologies at the University of Milan, Italy, in 1993; PhD in Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Milan in 2000; Postgraduate Degree in Experimental Endocrinology at the University of Milan in 2000. He was fellow at the National Institute of Cancer of Milan, Italy, in 1993-1994 and fellow at the Institute Cajal, Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas, Madrid, Spain, in 1996 and 2000. In 2001 he was enrolled as Postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Endocrinology, University of Milan , then he obtained the Assistant Professor position at the University of Milan (2001-on). In 2003 he was Visiting Scientist at Department of Pharmacology and Neuroscience, University of Dundee, Scotland. He awarded the "Galeno Prize 2003" in Pharmaceutical Science and the "Sapio Prize 2004, section Social and Health” for the Italian research. He his Lecturer at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Milan and Supervisor of PhD split-site at University of Manchester, UK. His main scientific interests are addressed to study the role of neurotransmitters and neurosteroids on the neuron-glial cross-talk in the central and peripheral nervous system; these mechanisms are studied in neurodegenerative models, peripheral demyelination and neuropathic pain. He is also interested in biomaterials and novel therapies for peripheral nerve regeneration.
