Ameeta Agarwal has a Ph.D. degree in biology from the University of Maryland, Md, USA. Her Ph.D. degree work was focused on studying developmental gene regulation in the cellular slime mold. Dr. Agarwal conducted her postdoctoral studies at Monsanto Company in St. Louis, Miss, where her work involved the molecular manipulation of plant metabolic pathways. She is currently a Senior Scientist at the National Center for Natural Products Research at the University of Mississippi, where she works on antifungal drug discovery. Her work focuses on the characterization of novel natural product-based antifungal compounds isolated from plant, animal, and microbial sources. Her laboratory investigates the mechanism of action of these compounds using genomic, genetic, and molecular approaches. Mechanistic studies are also being conducted on compounds that show synergism with current antifungal drugs, with the goal of identifying new drugs for combination therapy.
