Dimitris Panias is a metallurgical engineer, graduated from the School of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Greece, in 1984. He completed his Ph.D. thesis on gold pyrometallurgy at NTUA in 1989. Since 1989, he has been working as a Senior Researcher at the Laboratory of Metallurgy of NTUA, involving in a large number of projects related to ores and industrial minerals chemical processing, industrial wastewater treatment and geopolymerization of natural raw materials, exploitation tailings, and industrial by products. Now, he works as an Associate Professor at the School of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, teaching chemistry, nonferrous metals extractive metallurgy, and fluid dynamics. He has 104 publications in referee journals and international conferences, one book on general chemistry, one book on laboratory experiments in chemistry, and 3 national and international patents.
