Vytautas Usonis serves as a leading professor on a course on pediatric infectious diseases for medical students at the Vilnius University, tutor of Oxford University Postgraduate Diploma in paediatric infectious diseases. He graduated in 1974 from Vilnius University Faculty of Medicine as a physician/pediatrician. In 1981, he completed a Ph.D. degree at the 2nd Moscow Institute of Medicine. Between 1974 and 1989, he worked as an Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Infectious Diseases at Vilnius University. In 2009, he was elected as the Head of the Vilnius University Clinic of Paediatrics. Some of his other positions recently held are a Board Member of the European Society of Paediatric Infectious Diseases (ESPID); Chairman of the National Committee for Poliomyelitis Eradication Certification in Lithuania, Board member of the National Board on Immunisation of Lithuania, Chair of the Board, Baltic Immunoprophylaxis Association, President of the Lithuanian Paediatric Society, and President of the UNICEF National Committee of Lithuania. He published more than 100 publications in English, Russian and Lithuanian languages including textbooks and chapters in textbooks on paediatric infectious diseases, vaccine preventable diseases, and vaccinology.
