Shanta R. Bhattarai was born in Tulsipur Dang, Nepal, in 1977. He received the B.S. degree in basic science from Trichandra Campus, Tribhuvan University, Kirtipur, Nepal in 2000 and the M.S. degree in bioprocess engineering and the Ph.D. degree in bionanosystem engineering from the Chonbuk National University, Chonju, Republic of Korea in 2003 and 2007, respectively. Since 2001, Dr. Bhattarai has been working on broadly covered interdisciplinary research in the nanotechnology, regenerative science and nanomedicine. From 2007 to 2009, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Wayne State University, Detroit, Mich, USA and worked on design and development of stimuli responsive gene and drug delivery fields. From 2009 to 2010, Dr. Bhattarai was a guest Postdoctoral Fellow in Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, Berkeley and a Research Fellow at Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institutes, Oakland/University of California, Berkeley, Berkeley, Calif, USA. Dr. Bhttarai is a recipient of several awards, a member of several societies, and also a reviewer of several scientific international journals. Dr. Bhattarai is mainly interested in functionalization, micro- or nanofabrication and characterization of polymeric and inorganic biomaterials, cell/tissue biomaterial interactions, and the biomedical applications of nanomaterial for targeted drug delivery, gene therapy, and early imaging of cancer and infectious disease.
