Alexandre Serra received the M.D. degree in 1993, the Ph.D. degree in newborn physiology in 2001, and the Specialist degree in general surgery in 1995. Serra was part of the General Medical Council Specialist (paediatric surgeon) Registration, UK, in 2008. Since 2009, Serra has been a consultant in paediatric surgery in Germany and became a Private Lecturer in paediatric surgery there in 2012. Serra’s areas of expertise include general paediatric surgery, paediatric urology, minimally invasive surgery in children, paediatric plastic surgery, paediatric oncological surgery, and molecular genetics and oncology. Serra is a Reviewer for the following scientific publications: GUT, European Journal of Paediatric Surgery, BMC Cancer, Journal of Paediatric Genetics, and ISRN Surgery (Editorial Board Member). Serra is a Member of professional societies such as the European Pediatric Surgery Association (EUPSA) (2011), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Kinderchirurgie (German Paediatric Surgery Society) (2004), American Physiological Society (1999), Sociedade Brasileira de Cirurgia Pediátrica (Brazilian Paediatric Surgery Society) (1996), Associação Médica Brasileira (Brazilian Medical Association) (1993), and Associação Médica do Rio Grande do Sul (1991).
