Jane H. White
Jane H. White received her B.S.N. degree from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind, USA, an M.S.N. degree in PMHN from the University of Alabama, Ala, USA, and a Ph.D. degree from The Catholic University of America, Washington, DC, USA (1981). She achieved tenure and the rank of Full Professor at Catholic University where she taught for 21 years and chaired the PMHN Department. She is presently the Vera E. Bender Professor of nursing and the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Programs at Adelphi University, Garden City, NY, USA. While she is at Adelphi, over the past 5 years, she has developed many programs and councils to increase the scholarly productivity of the faculty and to develop a climate of research for faculty as well as students across all levels. Her publications and research focus on women's mental health especially eating disorders and obesity. She has more than 50 publications: peer-reviewed articles, other articles and commentaries, and book chapters. She serves as a reviewer for several journals. Dr. White has chaired 25 Ph.D. dissertation committees and served as a committee member of more than 40 other Ph.D. committees. She has taught many M.S. and Ph.D. level courses and developed several Ph.D. courses for Adelphi's program. Moreover, she has been awarded funding for numerous projects/programs over the years especially for graduate education. She most recently copresented at ENRS on research related to adjunct faculty needs. Dr. White has maintained a part-time psychotherapy practice for thirty years that focuses on women with eating disorders. Her research expertise is on methods, especially qualitative, theory and knowledge development, and women's mental health.
