Zoltan Szekanecz received his M.D. degree at the University of Debrecen Medical Center in 1988 and specialized subsequently in medicine, immunology, and then rheumatology. He received his Ph.D. degree in 1995 and his D.S. degree in 2001. He serves as Associate Professor and Head of the Rheumatology Division (since 2001) at the University of Debrecen Medical Center, Institute of Internal Medicine, Debrecen, Hungary. He teaches rheumatology and internal medicine to Hungarian and international students. His major research interests are the pathogenesis of arthritis including angiogenesis, chemokines, and adhesion molecules. He also studies accelerated atherosclerosis and vascular complications in rheumatoid arthritis and scleroderma.
