Yasuaki Hata is a Professor of Ophthalmology at Fukuoka Dental College in Fukuoka, Japan. Until 2010, he was the Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the Graduate School of Medical Sciences, Kyushu University and a staff physician at Kyushu University Hospital. Dr. Hata received his medical degree from Kyushu University in 1990 and completed his clinical training at Kyushu University Hospital. He also received his PhD in pathology from Kyushu University in 1996. From 1996 to 1999, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Joslin Diabetes Center at Harvard Medical School (Prof. Aiello). He has published original research articles on vitreoretinal diseases, particularly on diabetic retinopathy. As the recipient of several awards for his contributions to the field of ocular diseases, he received RHOTO AWARD in 2004 and Japanese Ophthalmologic Society Council Award in 2008.
