Awoniyi Awonuga is an Assistant Professor in obstetrics and gynecology at the School of Medicine of Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich, USA, since September 2010. He was formerly an Assistant Professor at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Ga, USA, since September 2005. He received his M.B. and B.S. (M.D.) degrees at the College of Medicine of the University of Ibadan in Nigeria, in 1979. His obstetrics and gynecology career started in September 1981 at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Nigeria. He is board certified in obstetrics and gyneclogy by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. In addition, he completed Higher Specialist Training and was accredited a specialist of obstetrician and gynecologist in Europe in 2000. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in September 2003 and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in 2005. He is a self-driven academic obstetrician and gynecologist with more than 40 original publications of which he is the first or senior author. Awonuga has special interest in reproductive endocrinology, infertility, and medical education. It is based on recognitions of his contributions in the latter area that he received the following accolades: Excellence in Teaching Award from the Department of Obstetrics Gynecology and Reproductive Science of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York and the National CREOG Faculty Awards for Excellence in Residency Education from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Maimonides Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York, in 2005, and from the Medical College of Georgia in 2006.
