Manon Labrecque completed an M.S. degree in health administration at the Faculty of Medicine, Université de Montréal under the supervision of François Champagne, Ph.D., a Professor and an Affiliated Researcher with GRIS, and Claudine Laurier, Ph.D., a Professor at Faculty of Pharmacy, Université de Montréal. The subject of Labrecque's thesis was “L’évaluation de l’utilisation des agonistes B2 inhalés et des dérivés de théophylline en fonction de critères de bon usage établis pour l’asthme chez les populations assurées par le secteur privé au Québec.” A published manuscript resulted from this project: J Asthma. 2003;40(7):829-35. Labrecque completed a fellowship in the field of occupational asthma under the supervision of Dr. Jean-Luc Malo, the Director for the Respiratory Axis of Sacré-Coeur Hospital Research Center. During his fellowship, he developed experience in occupational asthma and tried to apply his research expertise (evaluative research) in that field. He had received a grant from the IRSST (Institut de recherche Robert Sauvé en santé et sécurité du travail) for a project titled Comparaison de deux approches différentes pour identifier les sujets atteints d’asthme professionnel aux isocyanates. A manuscript from that project was published: Labrecque M, Khemici E, Cartier A, Malo JL, Turcot J. “Impairment in workers with isocyanate-induced-occupational asthma and removed from exposure in the province of Québec between 1985 and 2002.” Labrecque is involved in asthma education and care. He was the Director of the Asthma Committee of the RQAM (Réseau Québécois Asthme et MPOC) and the Official Delegate for the Province of Quebec on the CNAC (Canadian Network on Asthma Care), 2004–2008. In this field, he received two grants from the VESPA Program (Vers l’Excellence des Soins aux Patients Asthmatiques). He supervised a doctoral student (Laurin, Catherine) who completed a study on COPD.
