Prof. Dr. Tomasz Brzozowski works as professor of human physiology at Jagiellonian University Medical College, Cracow, Poland. Currently, he is the Chairman of Department of Physiology at Medical Faculty of Jagiellonian University. His major area of interest is gastrointestinal (GI)-tract physiology and pathophysiology with the major focus addressed to the mechanism of gastroduodenal mucosal defense, gastroprotection, healing process of gastric ulcerations and pathogenesis of irritable bowel disease (IBD). He studied the mechanism of action of many factors involved in the physiology and pathology of GI-tract including growth factors, melatonin, prostaglandins, nitric oxide, lipoxins and appetite hormones such leptin and ghrelin. Dr. Brzozowski was the Visiting Scientist and Postdoctoral NIH fellow at University of California, Irvine and VA Medical Center, Long Beach, CA, USA and at German Universities in Erlangen-Nuremberg and Munster. He published 290 publications as original articles in most prestigious scientific journals and 7 book chapters in the field related to physiology of GI-tract, gastroprotection and healing of experimental gastroduodenal ulcers, pathogenesis and therapy of IBD using experimental models. He is a member of Editorial Board of international journals and serves as the reviewer for papers considered for publication in gastroenterology, physiology and pharmacology journals.
