David Oelberg is a Professor of pediatrics at Eastern Virginia Medical School where he recently served as Interim Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics, Interim Director of the Center for Pediatric Research, and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters. He has provided clinical care for high-risk newborns and teaching of neonatal medicine for 20 years in the university setting. In addition to the many medical students, resident physicians, and clinical fellows he has taught, he has also mentored over 25 trainees in both basic science and clinical research projects. He has received over one million dollars in research support over this period, and is co-owner of the patent for BiliChek™. He is past recipient of an NIH Clinical Investigator award and Past-President of the Southern Society for Pediatric Research. He has served as a pediatric expert to the United States Pharmacopeia and National Institutes of Health, and he is current President of the medical staffs at Sentara Hospitals-Norfolk. He is nationally recognized for his research investigating in the anti-inflammatory properties of pulmonary surfactant.
