Prof. Marek Krawczuk was born in 1962 in Gdansk in Pomerania. In years 1982-1987 he studied at the Gdansk University of Technology, where in 1987 he was graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. From 1987-1989 he he worked as a research assistant at the same faculty. In 1989 he moved to the Szewalski Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery in Gdansk, where he has been working until now. In 1991 he obtained his Ph.D. degree in Machine Dynamics and 4 years later, in 1995, he obtained a D.Sc. degree in Mechanics. Finally, in year 2003, he was awared the title of Professor in Applied Mechanics. In years 2001-2003 he worked as a full profesor at the University of Warmia and Mazury at the Faculty of Technical Sciences. Since 2003 he has been working as a full professor at the Gdansk University of Technology at the Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering. His scientific interests are focused on various problems of applied mechanics like dynamics of machines, fracute mechanics, vibration analysis, numerical methods in mechanics, finite and spectral element methods, composite materials, the use of multi-functional materials, damage detection and identification. He has been a reviewer for such international scientific journal papers as: Finite Elements in Analysis and Design, Journal of Engineering Mechanics, and Composites Part B. Prof. Marek Krawczuk is also a member of the Polish Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. Prof. Marek Krawczuk has published as the author or co-author more than 160 research papers, including more than 40 published in top international scientific journals. He is also the author or co-author of many monographs, student textbooks, as well as scientific books. Until now he has been the supervisor of 25 M.Sc. theses and 3 Ph.D. theses.
