Farrokh Janabi-Sharifi

Farrokh Janabi-Sharifi serves as an Associate Professor of mechanical and industrial engineering and the Director of Robotics and Manufacturing Automation Laboratory (RMAL) at Ryerson University, Toronto, ON, Canada. He also holds Adjunct Professor positions at the University of Waterloo (Electrical and Computer Engineering Department), Waterloo, Canada, and University of Western Ontario (Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering), London, Canada. His research theme is on optomechatronic systems with focus on image-guided control and planning. Professor Janabi-Sharifi was a Postdoctoral Fellow at NSERC (Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada) and an Instructor in the Center for Intelligent Machines and Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of McGill University between 1995 and 1997. He joined the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Ryerson University in 1997. He serves as an Associate Editor of a few journals including International Journal of Optomechatronics, The Open Cybernetics and Systematics Journal, and Editor-in-Chief of Student Journal of Automation, Robotics, Mechatronics, and Manufacturing (SJARMM). He is the Coauthor of a book entitled Introduction to Hydraulic Control (Nashr-Danesh Press, 1995), 4 book chapters in visual servoing and optomechatronics and editor of two books on Optomechatronic Systems Control, and Optomechatronic Systems Actuators, Manipulation, and Control (with Y. Otani) (SPIE, 2005, 2006). Dr. Janabi-Sharifi is a Senior Member of SME, Senior Member of IEEE, Member of CSME, and listed in AMWS. He has organized several international conferences, namely, SPIE International Conference on Optomechatronic Systems Control (2005, 2006), and served in Program Committees of many International Conferences such as IEEE/ASME International Conference on Advanced Intelligent Mechatronics (2007).
