Jukka Jokisaari received his Ph.D. degree in physics from University of Oulu, Oulu, Finland, in 1974. In 1987, he was appointed as an Associate Professor and in 1998 as a Professor of atomic and molecular spectroscopy in the Department of Physical Sciences, University of Oulu. Since 1998, he is the Head of the Department of Physical Sciences. During 1978–1995, he worked for about four years as a postdoctoral Fellow and as a Visiting Professor in the Department of Physics, University of Basel, Switzerland. He is a Member of the Council of the Faculty of Sciences, University of Oulu, AMPERE International Committee, ISMAR Nominating Committee, EMAR (Multidisciplinary Frontiers of Magnetic Resonance) Steering Committee, and of the Editorial Board of The Open Magnetic Resonance Journal. His scientific interests include NMR spectroscopic studies of molecular properties (structure, nuclear shielding, spin-spin coupling, and quadrupole coupling) in gases, liquids and solids, and of various materials, particularly liquid crystals and porous solids. In materials research, he often uses NMR active noble gases as spy.
