Hong Nie is now a Member of Academic Degree Committee under the State Council, and a Member of Expert Committee of National "863" plan. He is also a Vice Chairman of the Editorial Boards of Journal of NUAA and Transactions of NUAA (english version), and is a Member of Editorial Boards both of Journal of China Mechanical Engineering and Journal of Vibration, Measurement & Diagnosis. He obtained his Eng.B. degree in 1982 and Eng.M. degree in 1985 from Northwestern Polytechnical University, China, and a Ph.D. degree in 1990 from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA). He promoted to a Professor in 1994 at NUAA. He was a Visiting Professor at Hankuk Aviation University from June 1996 to May 1997. Nie was an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow at German Aerospace Research Establishment from 1997 to 1999. At present, he is the Vice President and the the Dean of postgraduate school of NUAA, in charge of academic affairs of postgraduate students and international affairs. His research activities deal with two aspects: (i) design of aircraft landing gears (or railway vehicle suspensions) and dynamic analysis of aircraft (or railway vehicle) ground motions, (ii) fatigue life prediction of aircraft (or railway vehicle) structures. He has undertaked and is conducting up to 40 projects sponsored from the government and the enterprises in in the fields above. He has been awarded a lot of prizes and honors due to his academic contributions. He enjoys special government allowance.
