Wei Hsing Tuan

User Biography : Prof Wei Hsing Tuan Wei Hsing Tuan was born in Taipei, Taiwan. He received his B.S. degree from the Department of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, National Cheng-Kung University, Tainan City, Taiwan, in 1980. He received his M.S. degree from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, National Tsing Hua University, Hsinchu, Taiwan, in 1982. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Ceramics, University of Leeds, West Yorkshire, UK, in 1988. Wei Hsing then spent one year at the Powder Metallurgy Laboratory, Max-Planck Institute, Stuttgart, Germany, for his postdoctoral study. Then, he joined the Department of Materials Science and Engineering of National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan, in 1990. Presently, he works as a Professor at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, the Director of Industry-Academic Cooperation Center, and the Deputy Dean of R&D Department, National Taiwan University. His interests include sintering, ceramic processing, and ceramic-matrix composites. He has been serving as the Council Member of the Chinese Society for Materials Science since 2000. He has received several awards such as the Outstanding Innovation Award from the National Taiwan University, in 2008 and the Outstanding Technology Transferring Award from the National Science Council, Taiwan (2008–2010). He occupied the post of an Academician of World Academy of Ceramics (WAC), in 2011.
