Christian F. Poets
Christian Poets received his medical training first at the Department of Paediatrics, Salzgitter City Hospital, and then from December 1986 to August 1989 at the Department of Paediatric Pulmonology and Neonatology, Hannover Medical School. He did a two‐year research Fellowship at the Department of Paediatric Respiratory Physiology, Brompton Hospital and National Heart and Lung Institute, London, where he worked as Honorary Paediatric Registrar. Since 2002, Professor Poets has been Professor and Chief of the Department of Neonatology, Tübingen University Hospital. He is also Chairman of both the Interdisciplinary Centre for Craniofacial Malformations and the Clinical Ethics Committee of Tübingen University Hospital and a member of the institution’s scientific review board (IRB). Professor Poets has coauthored 230 articles cited in PubMed and has contributed to over 120 review articles. He is a member of the Neonatal Society and the European Society for Paediatric Research and was Chairman of the Society for Neonatology and Paediatric Intensive Care from 2005 to 2009. His main research interests include the control of breathing, obstructive sleep apnoea, sudden infant death syndrome, perinatal epidemiology and outcome research, surfactant research, innate immunity, and the conduct of multicentre clinical trials including NEUROSIS, a large EU‐funded multicentre study on the effectiveness of inhaled steroids in the prevention of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), COT (Canadian Oxygen Trial), and ETTNO (effects of transfusion thresholds on neurocognitive outcome).
