Jose Antonio De Freitas Pacheco
Jose Antonio De Freitas Pacheco was born in Sao Paulo in 1942. He obtained the Ph.D. degree in physical science in France (1971). He was a Full Professor at the University of Sao Paulo in 1985. He is a former Director of the following institutes: National Observatory (Rio de Janeiro, 1979–1981); Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (University of Sao Paulo, 1989–1993); Observatory of Cote d'Azur (Nice, France, 1994–1999). He is a Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, Grand Croix of the Scientific Merit (Brazilian Government, 2000). His fields of interest include relativistic astrophysics, cosmology, galaxy formation, and evolution. He is the author of 180 scientific papers and 75 communications to international symposia.
