Andra R. Frost obtained her M.D. degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Birmingham, AL, USA, followed by residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology and a surgical pathology and cytopathology fellowship at the George Washington University, Washington, DC, USA. She was a Faculty Member of the Department of Pathology at Georgetown University and George Washington University before joining the Faculty at UAB in 1997, where she serves currently as a Professor of pathology. She also has a secondary appointment in the Department of Cell, Developmental and Integrative Biology and is a Scientist in the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center. She worked as the Section Head of the diagnostic UAB Cytopathology Service from 1998 to 2001 and currently participates in this service as well as the autopsy service. She also oversees an extramurally funded research program in breast cancer. The current focus of her research is fibroblast-epithelial interactions and Hedgehog signaling/Gli-mediated transcription in the development and progression of breast cancer.
