Henrik Saxén

Henrik Saxén was born in Turku, Finland, in 1959. He works as a Professor in heat engineering at the Department of Chemical Engineering of Åbo Akademi University, Finland. He received his M.S. degree in chemical engineering in 1983 and defended his Ph.D. thesis in 1988, both at Åbo Akademi University. He has held several positions at the university and was appointed professor in 1997. He was the Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering in 1998–2000 and Vice Rector, in research, of the university during the four-year period 2006–2009. Today, he is the Head of the Thermal and Flow Engineering Laboratory with a staff of about 25 persons, including postdoctoral researchers and doctoral students. Professor Saxén’s main research activities are in energy issues and modeling, simulation and optimization of industrial processes, as well as soft computing techniques. In particular, he has developed models and improved technologies for the iron making blast furnace process. He has authored about 80 papers in referee journals and a large number of conference papers.
