Tomohiro Ueda works as a Chief Urologist at the Department of Urology in Kyoto City Hospital and a Clinical Professor at Kyoto University Hospital, Kyoto, Japan. Dr. Ueda graduated from the UOEH (University of the Occupational and Environmental Health) in 1987. Ueda did his residency in urology at Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan, and he also received a Ph.D. degree at Kyoto University. Dr. Ueda has extensive clinical experience in urinary incontinence and interstitial cystitis (IC). Since 1997, Dr. Ueda has been studying pathophysiological IC condition using a novel oral agents including IPD-1151T (suplatast tosilate), about which he started a clinical study in the US and Europe. Dr. Ueda has also coordinated the clinical IC projects performed in Japan. Tomohiro Ueda has served as the President in the first meeting of International Consultation on Interstitial Cystitis, Japan (ICICJ), held on March 28–30, 2003, in Kyoto, Japan. in collaboration with Drs. Grannum R. Sant, Philip M. Hanno, and Naoki Yoshimura in the USA. The ICICJ meeting was truly international in scope (27 representatives from all 5 continents and over 14 countries) and has provided the first step for the establishment of the internationally approved diagnostic criteria of IC. Dr. Ueda has also contributed to organizing the first IC patient group, Tomo-no-ki, in Japan and founded the NPO: Comfortable Urology Network (CUN) in 2005. Dr. Ueda has organized the 2nd ICICJ in Kyoto in March 2007 and involved in world research group such as 4th International Consultation on Incontinence (ICI) in Paris in 2008 and 2012 and NIDDK symposium as an invited speaker. Now Dr. Ueda is setting up a 3rd ICICJ meeting in March 2013, in Kyoto.
